United Methodist Women

UMW News, August 2022

It seems like we just observed Memorial Day, and here we are now with Labor Day quickly approaching. The women of Little Utica UMC have been very busy continuing our work on our missions. Our New 2 You clothing store has continued to be very active this summer, and especially now with back to school shopping. Our hours are every Thursday from 9-11:00, and the first Saturday of each month, also 9-11:00. Our School House has also been very busy with customers buying everything from dishes and small appliances, to books, vintage items, and even holiday decorations. The School House hours are the same as New 2 You.

We are especially pleased to be able to continue our support of Erin’s Angels. Erin’s Angels is an organization which supplies food for the weekends to over 100 students, each Friday. The founder of Erin’s Angels, Sheila Dion, attended our Open House on July 31st, and shared the story of how Erin’s Angels came to be. While there, she also met and spoke with a volunteer from the Hub, Kristina Clark. The Upper N.Y. Conference of the UMC Mission Central Hub is a facility and mission on ways to live “Being the Hands and Feet of God.” A variety of kits are assembled by volunteers to be distributed for a variety of situations, such as Flood Kits. Through this connection, 50 School Supply Kits were offered to Erin’s Angels. These kits contain a good variety of the basic classroom needs, and will enable 50 families to prepare their children for the school year. Two of our UMW members picked up the supply kits and delivered them to Maroun Elementary School in Phoenix, where Erin’s Angels has its base of operation. This experience has also shown us the many exciting possibilities and opportunities for volunteering at the Hub in the future.

Currently, our UMW is busy planning for our Fall Craft Fair. The Craft Fair will be held at the church on Saturday, October 15th, from 9-2:00. Several vendors and crafters have already reserved tables, and we anticipate a great turnout. The wonderful bakers in UMW are also having a bake sale in the church parlor from 9-2:00. Be sure to mark your calendars for October 15th, and come early for the best selection….our baked good sell out fast!

We are also looking ahead to the events of the upcoming holiday season, including a Christmas Bake sale. More details will be provided in the coming months, as well as information about our other missions that we support during the holiday season. Have an enjoyable fall season, and we look forward to seeing everyone on October 15th!

Blessings to All,

Donna Fingland, UMW President
